uh.. if you put 50-60 hours a week into programming you should be good within a few months
ananteris 2017-01-19 03:46:48
source: been programming 15 years
Lauda 2017-01-19 03:48:33
Good as in.. junior typo corrector, right?
moli_ 2017-01-19 03:49:46
buZz, how did you learn programming at 5?
moli_ 2017-01-19 03:50:15
buZz, you started out learning binary before alphabet?

if you put 50-60 hours in every day and always on new methodologies (eg working through a textbook or somethign) you would be an adequate programmer in a few months
ananteris 2017-01-19 04:26:35
its not that hard to program
Lauda 2017-01-19 04:26:44
Disagreed.
Lauda 2017-01-19 04:26:54
You'll be part of the average crowd.
jamesstanley 2017-01-19 04:27:52
if you have to consciously put in effort you'll probably always be part of the average crowd
ananteris 2017-01-19 04:27:57
being an "average" programmer is being a programmer bruh
jamesstanley 2017-01-19 04:28:01
the people who are great at programming learnt it by accident because it was fun
Lauda 2017-01-19 04:28:20
^stop watching movies.
ananteris 2017-01-19 04:29:13
show of hands, who here works as a developer full time?
jamesstanley 2017-01-19 04:29:44
I used to but I stopped doing full time to focus on my own things
ananteris 2017-01-19 04:31:02
well I do, and putting in 40 hours a week I can learn a new language to what I would consider a passable level in 2 months? three maybe?
jamesstanley 2017-01-19 04:31:12
yeah but you're not starting from nothing
jamesstanley 2017-01-19 04:31:20
if you're starting from no programming ability it will be harder
buZz 2017-01-19 04:31:39
moli_: i'm autodidactic
Lauda 2017-01-19 04:31:39
Once you get the hang of it, new languages are just a trivial learning process (more or less).
buZz 2017-01-19 04:31:50
(also, my first language was BASIC)
ananteris 2017-01-19 04:32:40
I would say I start every language from C, if someone spent 60 hours a week reading "the C programming language" and doing all of the exercises, they would be able to contribute to projects in 4 or 5 months easy
Lauda 2017-01-19 04:33:01
You didn't factor 1 thing in
Lauda 2017-01-19 04:33:47
How many hours from those 60 hours are going to be full hours of actual works. I'd imagine the frustration, stress, procrastination along the way is high for someone with no knowledge.
ananteris 2017-01-19 04:34:20
60 hours of actively thinking about programming concepts, regardless of their results
Lauda 2017-01-19 04:34:35
Yeah good luck with that.
ananteris 2017-01-19 04:34:50
its a lot, but still.. its not years
ananteris 2017-01-19 04:34:53
programming isnt that hard
Lauda 2017-01-19 04:34:56
Years.
Lauda 2017-01-19 04:35:14
I consider average to be useless, thus why years.
ananteris 2017-01-19 04:35:15
alright, i'd agree to maybe the typical person up to 2 years
ananteris 2017-01-19 04:35:35
well, average coders have built almost everything you use
Lauda 2017-01-19 04:35:47
That's not something that I care about.
ananteris 2017-01-19 04:36:05
whatever
moli_ 2017-01-19 04:36:10
buZz, hah!
moli_ 2017-01-19 04:36:25
buZz, my first language was qbasic lol
buZz 2017-01-19 04:36:55
:)

maret 2017-01-19 04:42:06
hi everyone, isn't bitcoin too expensive for use on day to day smaller transactions? Right now the price of average transaction is around 15 cents meaning it takes about 40 transactions to get to 6 dollar price which is aprox for what I pay montly to my bank account where I have unlimited transactions plus other services.
maret 2017-01-19 04:42:51
Its not unlikely that fees may go up even higher so paying daily by bitcoin could be more expensive than paying by visa card locally in western world
Xanather 2017-01-19 04:43:44
maret, yes its possible
buZz 2017-01-19 04:44:16
but, keeping the banks in power is worth them a -lot- more than 6 usd/month
maret 2017-01-19 04:44:32
yes but average joe doesn't care that much about that
nkuttler 2017-01-19 04:44:39
maret: that's one of the reasons why people work on things like lightning network
buZz 2017-01-19 04:44:43
he does, just ask him ;)
buZz 2017-01-19 04:44:53
he doesnt see bitcoin as an alternative though
