Guest89572 2017-01-16 06:45:25
Hmm, I am on windows
Guest89572 2017-01-16 06:46:14
have Mcafee running, is it sufficient
spudowiar 2017-01-16 06:46:49
Guest89572: I'd suggest not running a full node on a computer that you use for general stuff
Guest89572 2017-01-16 06:47:32
only my laptop has full time availability of bandwidth
Guest89572 2017-01-16 06:48:12
and the one has enough harddisk capacity and RAM
spudowiar 2017-01-16 06:48:25
Maybe it's not worth running one at all then
berndj 2017-01-16 06:48:33
imho any OS that requires you to run "antivirus" to have any sort of sanctity is a fundamentally broken OS
spudowiar 2017-01-16 06:49:08
heh
Guest89572 2017-01-16 06:49:21
i understand the issues with windows, however bit unfamiliar with Linux
berndj 2017-01-16 06:49:53
it's like sleeping with the locals with no condom and relying on penicillin to save you
norotartagen 2017-01-16 06:50:41
binary = virus
berndj 2017-01-16 06:51:03
Guest89572, there was an issue where some antivirus would falsely identify some blocks as containing a virus, then would "disinfect" them, thereby corrupting them
Guest89572 2017-01-16 06:51:45
i read about it in the website, however i did not have that issue yet
krashan 2017-01-16 06:52:17
Guest89572: Get familiar with Linux, problem solved. It costs nothing.
Guest89572 2017-01-16 06:52:57
I can do that, can I copy the full node from windows and use it with ubuntu
Guest89572 2017-01-16 06:53:09
otherwise i have to download again 100Gb
jwinterm 2017-01-16 06:55:35
Guest89572: you can run linux in virtualbox for free on windows
jwinterm 2017-01-16 06:55:52
which I think would prevent issue of antivirus corrupting blockchain
jwinterm 2017-01-16 06:56:15
if your blockchain is really corrupt, it probably won't work to copy it from windows to linux tho
Guest89572 2017-01-16 06:56:52
mine is not corrupt, yet, the full node has been running fine
jwinterm 2017-01-16 06:57:08
then yes, I think they are compatible between OSes
jwinterm 2017-01-16 06:57:18
not 100% sure tho
Guest89572 2017-01-16 06:57:19
ok, thanks
Guest89572 2017-01-16 06:57:59
if i keep a zipped copy of fullnode as a backup, can i use to restore in case of some failure
Guest89572 2017-01-16 06:58:25
I read about , in case of force shutdown, the full node may get corrupted
jwinterm 2017-01-16 06:59:25
yes

voldz1tic3n 2017-01-16 07:11:58
is there any connections between bitcoins and the stock exchange??
Michail1 2017-01-16 07:12:40
yes
voldz1tic3n 2017-01-16 07:19:36
awesome
cluelessperson 2017-01-16 07:19:50
So I'm thinking about making some **REALLY** high quality physical bitcoins. :)
voldz1tic3n 2017-01-16 07:19:50
where may I learn more?
cluelessperson 2017-01-16 07:20:05
voldz1tic3n, Hi there, I like to teach people about the subject. :)
cluelessperson 2017-01-16 07:20:10
voldz1tic3n, are you new to bitcoin?
voldz1tic3n 2017-01-16 07:20:10
that's cool! where can I see those physical bitconins
voldz1tic3n 2017-01-16 07:20:18
yes I am
cluelessperson 2017-01-16 07:20:24
voldz1tic3n, I haven't made them yet. :)
voldz1tic3n 2017-01-16 07:20:41
can you make bit-coin dollars?
voldz1tic3n 2017-01-16 07:20:51
so they can be folded nicely and neatly into my wallet?
cluelessperson 2017-01-16 07:20:53
I don't want to confuse you though, physical coins are just physical metal coins with keys printed on them
cluelessperson 2017-01-16 07:20:59
voldz1tic3n, yes
voldz1tic3n 2017-01-16 07:21:08
:D!
cluelessperson 2017-01-16 07:21:21
voldz1tic3n, but the second the private key is known by someone, the thing is worthless, unless you change out the key on it somehow
cluelessperson 2017-01-16 07:21:35
voldz1tic3n, So, how new are you exactly? :)
cluelessperson 2017-01-16 07:21:44
I need to know what needs explaining.
voldz1tic3n 2017-01-16 07:21:46
well I am a hacker
cluelessperson 2017-01-16 07:22:05
voldz1tic3n, Where are you with bitcoin? :)
voldz1tic3n 2017-01-16 07:22:37
I don't own any yet but am very interested in them as well as the businesses that support them. Where can I learn about that?
voldz1tic3n 2017-01-16 07:22:48
I'm looking to invest in them.
cluelessperson 2017-01-16 07:23:22
voldz1tic3n, Are you familiar with how they work? generally
cluelessperson 2017-01-16 07:23:28
how to use
voldz1tic3n 2017-01-16 07:23:49
I'm reading up on that at the bitcoin site.
cluelessperson 2017-01-16 07:24:09
voldz1tic3n, Would you like a summarization?
voldz1tic3n 2017-01-16 07:25:48
yes I would love please
cluelessperson 2017-01-16 07:30:07
voldz1tic3n, Bitcoin, the currency, refers to a large set of logic. The entire history of bitcoin is stored, and shared by many people across the globe. A server that hosts that history is called a "bitcoin node"
voldz1tic3n 2017-01-16 07:31:40
amazing!
voldz1tic3n 2017-01-16 07:31:54
what ingenuity*
cluelessperson 2017-01-16 07:32:33
Bitcoin Nodes connect to each other and syncronize the history, called the "blockchain", and host the "mempool", which are transactions that MIGHT be accepted into history.
cluelessperson 2017-01-16 07:33:28
You are able to use bitcoin like money, because you can see the entire history for yourself, and determine, "X amount of bitcoin landed in Z address"
raynold 2017-01-16 07:35:53
ahh it's a wonderful day
cluelessperson 2017-01-16 07:36:37
voldz1tic3n, How do you use it? You create a SECRET/PRIVATE_KEY that generates an address. Anyone in the world can send bitcoin to your address. ONLY you with the SECRET/PRIVATE_KEY will be tell the network to move the bitcoin.
MrPomel 2017-01-16 07:36:57
Where can i trade my litecoins for bitcoins?
cluelessperson 2017-01-16 07:37:43
voldz1tic3n, Now, here's the slightly complicated part. When you make a transaction, you have to tell the network/world about it. That transaction is NOT complete until it's written into the blockchain(history)
cluelessperson 2017-01-16 07:39:34
voldz1tic3n, Transactions have a "fee" that determines (typically) how quickly it will get into the blockchain. New blocks are mined every 10 minutes(on average), and the miner will typically say, "I have found a block, and I choose to enter these 100 transactions, and collect the fees for putting them into the blockchain"
cluelessperson 2017-01-16 07:39:51
voldz1tic3n, That's the basis of how it works, any questions? :)
MrPomel 2017-01-16 07:40:29
Is btc-e thrustworthy?
haakonn 2017-01-16 07:41:00
it's one of the longest-operating exchanges in bitcoin
