I can't come up with a better solution even if I use a dedicated offline PC I need to transfer data from the www to it
Brah 2017-01-12 02:46:37
it's safer for it to be just drive on the network on a safe OS
Brah 2017-01-12 02:47:18
than a second PC where the OS can be comprimised by using falshdrives/hdds that have been connected to a PC with www access

Anyone know if bitcoin is at a low? Assuming that China thing stopped completely is there anything else that may effect it's price to drop again? I want to buy some but waiting for a price dip

if I could predict moneys value I'd be rich already
ericx2x 2017-01-12 03:07:15
BrahRah: yeah but if you look at certain factors in the world you can make a prediction with a gut feeling at least. haha
ericx2x 2017-01-12 03:07:26
I agree though I can't predict the future well at all
ericx2x 2017-01-12 03:08:18
But if someone wise in an area can see certain factors going on they could gage what the future will be like (if they are actually skilled at whatever it is they're predicting)
ericx2x 2017-01-12 03:08:40
I don't know enough about bitcoin to really know, right now it's like a 50/50 chance of going up or down in my eyes
BrahRah 2017-01-12 03:08:52
I did some forex trading for about 1/2 year I was even able to predict an outcome. But the brokers ran off with my money.
ericx2x 2017-01-12 03:08:58
Anyway thanks for the link I'll talk in that channel now

speculating on money, food or housing shouldn't be a thing

makes me cringe but I have no idea how people can be prevented from doing so
marijnfs 2017-01-12 03:35:39
question, why do people say pools should signal segwit, can't the peers in the pool themselves decide what blocks to give to the pool? Or do pools restrict the flags that can be set?
gmaxwell 2017-01-12 03:36:41
marijnfs: the way pools are constructed today the pool has complete control, the miners in it are just dumb sha256 devices with basically no knoweldge of bitcoin, selling their sha256 computations for bitcoins.
marijnfs 2017-01-12 03:37:39
Ok, they just get sent headers or hashes thereof?
trotski2000 2017-01-12 03:37:53
wow i just had a strange problem with Core
marijnfs 2017-01-12 03:38:00
gmaxwell: i thought you are supposed to hash a full header, so you would be able to set the bits
gmaxwell 2017-01-12 03:38:24
marijnfs: oh god no, wow, that would break the network.
gmaxwell 2017-01-12 03:38:48
marijnfs: the purpose of the bits is to signal that you will enforce, if you set bits without enforcing the rules, doom befalls us all.
marijnfs 2017-01-12 03:39:47
gmaxwell: yeah i heard that was the problem with the other fork; but pools could say the enforcing code is ready and they just let the peers decide
trotski2000 2017-01-12 03:40:52
I recently did a brand new HD Core wallet. I generated a very long random password with lots of special characters with my password manager and I encryped it. Today I tried to send some funds and it said the password was wrong. Luckily enough I had a backup of the non-encrypted wallet but this is super strange. I'd assume I pasted the wrong password but my
trotski2000 2017-01-12 03:40:52
password manager reminds in which apps I pasted what password at what time. And my password manager remembers that I pasted two times what I belived to be the correct password in Core at the exact time the encrypted password was created. My head is about to explode, how is that possible?
marijnfs 2017-01-12 03:41:04
gmaxwell: ok still confused, i see the header plus bits and nonce are hashed twice; the pool could do the first hash but that would require work
marijnfs 2017-01-12 03:41:13
gmaxwell: so i think the peers see the full thing no?
gmaxwell 2017-01-12 03:41:50
marijnfs: if pools had upgraded, it would already be go, other that 'viabtc' and 'bitcoin.com' none have said they didn't want it, they just haven't bothered upgrading yet.
marijnfs 2017-01-12 03:43:21
gmaxwell: they haven't said anything? Core is sometimes in contact with pools right?
trotski2000 2017-01-12 03:43:46
I mean that my password manager remembers that I pasted two times what I believed to be the correct password in Core at the exact time the encrypted wallet was created. And still Core said my password was wrong? Lol there's no way I wrap my head around this :o
