and they said boom/bust was over
VOODOOHACK 2017-01-11 17:40:47
Is anyone here?
VOODOOHACK 2017-01-11 17:41:04
HEY!
VOODOOHACK 2017-01-11 17:41:09
?
pitayita 2017-01-11 17:44:23
VOODOOHACK
pitayita 2017-01-11 17:44:26
hello
pitayita 2017-01-11 17:44:28
its me
pitayita 2017-01-11 17:44:32
ive been wandering
pitayita 2017-01-11 17:44:37
or is it wondering
midnightmagic 2017-01-11 17:50:26
TD-Linux: how can I get a risc-v machine :)
plorph 2017-01-11 18:17:30
so, can bitcoin actually become a global payment network
Chillum 2017-01-11 18:17:48
not really
Chillum 2017-01-11 18:18:05
it can't handle the massive scale, it will be more like a commodity
plorph 2017-01-11 18:18:32
as it is, but what about lightning network
Chillum 2017-01-11 18:19:08
it very well may be the template for a future network that can
Chillum 2017-01-11 18:19:14
I dont' know about lightning, never looked into it
plorph 2017-01-11 18:19:22
really? you should
intx 2017-01-11 18:29:42
plorph: it already is
plorph 2017-01-11 18:30:51
intx: yeah, i meant, the scenario where everyone and machines transact in bitcoin
plorph 2017-01-11 18:31:00
mainly regarding scalability
plorph 2017-01-11 18:31:28
i brought it up because i am not 100% sure about lightning network and thought i would ask what others here think about it
intx 2017-01-11 18:32:19
compared to, my in experience, how fast it takes for an international 'wire transfer' to clear and the cost of one, bitcoin is already way ahead
plorph 2017-01-11 18:32:39
but thats because hardly anyone uses bitcoin
plorph 2017-01-11 18:32:51
we're pioneers lol
intx 2017-01-11 18:33:03
https://blockchain.info/charts/n-transactions <- wouldn't say hardly anyone
piqure 2017-01-11 18:33:04
^^^ WARNING: any URL may lead directly or indirectly to COIN-STEALING MALWARE! ^^^
TD-Linux 2017-01-11 18:33:50
midnightmagic, buy one off crowd supply. only a microcontroller though
plorph 2017-01-11 18:35:39
intx: still, even just for visa, visa processes almost 300x that
intx 2017-01-11 18:35:46
the last block alone had 30million usd worth of bitcoin transacted in 1583 transactions
intx 2017-01-11 18:35:59
sure but visa is a proprietary network
intx 2017-01-11 18:36:16
I was here when maybe about $1k usd moved per block
intx 2017-01-11 18:36:35
and bitcoin had about 20 transactions per block, now it is ~2k per block
plorph 2017-01-11 18:36:59
im optimistic i just dont want to have false hope, id rather know the truth
intx 2017-01-11 18:37:29
if you're asking when every living soul will adopt bitcoin, that will probably take a lot of time, if it will happen at all, people are resistant to change
plorph 2017-01-11 18:37:59
i just drool over a world economy based on decentralized networks, it would be so robust from horseshit politics
intx 2017-01-11 18:38:30
I dream about a DAO based government, but good luck seeing it in your lifetime :)
intx 2017-01-11 18:38:39
I hope I am wrong
plorph 2017-01-11 18:38:39
oh yeah for sure, thats even bigger
plorph 2017-01-11 18:39:07
idk, i feel like this stuff could happen quicker that at first thought but it might take some kind of major turmoil first
intx 2017-01-11 18:39:38
I hope you are right, in my experience people don't like moving from concepts they are accustomed to
intx 2017-01-11 18:39:50
unless there is a huge benefit to them, and even when that is the case, they move slow
intx 2017-01-11 18:40:10
the younger population tends to be more open to change, so you'll have to wait for all the old people to die haha
plorph 2017-01-11 18:40:18
yah
plorph 2017-01-11 18:40:33
actually i have a theory that things are going to change fast when the old people that are not used to the internet at all start dying
plorph 2017-01-11 18:40:53
they are mostly in charge of the governments and companies
plorph 2017-01-11 18:41:12
can you imagine? them all replaced with computer-savvy people who know how to use the internet properly
intx 2017-01-11 18:41:28
the average lifespan for humans is increasing though
intx 2017-01-11 18:41:58
my grandmother is 90 something
plorph 2017-01-11 18:42:15
yeah, but tech isn't here yet to keep them functional at that age, they just kinda exist
plorph 2017-01-11 18:42:36
i cant even imagine, when im old, ill be like ultra computer freak
plorph 2017-01-11 18:43:12
i bet my mind will have a fast connection to a computer, it wont be like it is now, this slow typing with ancient evolved fingers staring at light screen
intx 2017-01-11 18:43:24
I'd imagine most people 40+ are not going to be using bitcoin unless it makes them rich or something, maybe a small minority, we'll have to wait for all those people to no longer have an influence on government and politics
plorph 2017-01-11 18:43:58
those who are 40+ now?
intx 2017-01-11 18:44:00
or any cryptocurrency, unless it is behind the scenes
intx 2017-01-11 18:44:27
yes
plorph 2017-01-11 18:44:32
yeah, idk
