if it's not open source and usable from my own device it's not secure
quem_ 2017-01-12 00:47:14
has anyone attempted microscopic etching of seed words?
buZz 2017-01-12 00:47:36
BrahRah: bitcoin -is- opensource
buZz 2017-01-12 00:47:40
stop FUDding nonsense
BrahRah 2017-01-12 00:47:59

norotartagen 2017-01-12 00:48:53
hmm, i think they would have to utilize quantum entanglement to create physical bitcoins
RixiM 2017-01-12 00:49:08
hi I have a bunch of blk000 files and i'm trying to sync the blockchain, i'm running -reindex now, after this is done... do I need to run -txindex as well?
norotartagen 2017-01-12 00:49:18
no i'm just high
buZz 2017-01-12 00:49:32
RixiM: not needed, no
buZz 2017-01-12 00:49:44
RixiM: unless you want to make a tx index
RixiM 2017-01-12 00:49:49
yes. I do.
buZz 2017-01-12 00:49:57
then yep
norotartagen 2017-01-12 00:50:03
is it possible to create physical bitcoins? couldn't you just write down the code?
buZz 2017-01-12 00:50:13
norotartagen: yes to both questions
RixiM 2017-01-12 00:50:33
sorry, it's been a long day already... so if I want a txindex, I'll need to run -reindex -txindex ?
RixiM 2017-01-12 00:50:53
will they both start from where they left off, or from the start of the blockchain?
buZz 2017-01-12 00:50:57
yes, but you probably want to do the -txindex step after the -reindex is done
BrahRah 2017-01-12 00:51:19
@ buzz so why did you exactly want me to check out bithodl?
RixiM 2017-01-12 00:51:27
i'm on aws and this is taking days, is there a faster way?
buZz 2017-01-12 00:51:49
BrahRah: its a idea that prevents loss through novel usage of transactions
RixiM 2017-01-12 00:51:56
how much faster does this stuff go with -dbcache properly set?
buZz 2017-01-12 00:52:06
RixiM: dont use shitty cloud servers
BrahRah 2017-01-12 00:52:11
any link to an understandable explanatin?
buZz 2017-01-12 00:52:18
BrahRah: no
RixiM 2017-01-12 00:52:20
buzz: don't have much of a choice.
buZz 2017-01-12 00:52:29
RixiM: then just wait
BrahRah 2017-01-12 00:52:37
so you just like to mess with ppl?
wumpus 2017-01-12 00:52:51
with a large dbcache (4GB+) it can be a few times faster, especially with slow i/o disks
buZz 2017-01-12 00:52:52
BrahRah: no i expect YOU to be able to educate YOURSELF
BrahRah 2017-01-12 00:53:09
you know what I'm done talking to you
wumpus 2017-01-12 00:53:17
with SSD the difference ought to be less
RixiM 2017-01-12 00:53:17
wumpus: i'm network bound at the moment.
wumpus 2017-01-12 00:53:28
if you're network bound, dbcache won'thelp you in any way
buZz 2017-01-12 00:53:31
BrahRah: i also -already- gave you link to the technology behind it
buZz 2017-01-12 00:53:38
yet, you just ignorantly ignore them
RixiM 2017-01-12 00:54:24
is there a way I can just get the 110ish gigs with a proper txindex via a torrent or something?
wumpus 2017-01-12 00:55:03
you could, but pre-verified database would be extremely dangerous, someone can lie to you about existence of transactions or feed you false transactions
RixiM 2017-01-12 00:55:27
wumpus: yes, i understand that risk.
wumpus 2017-01-12 00:55:28
what you could do is verify on a fast pc, then copy the whole data directory
BrahRah 2017-01-12 00:56:45
Anyone still interested in talking about securing bitcoin? If not I'm afk. @buzz don't bother answering I put you on ignore
buZz 2017-01-12 00:57:39
americans are like the worst possible internet users
buZz 2017-01-12 00:57:46
expecting everything on a golden platter
buZz 2017-01-12 00:57:49
prechewed
norotartagen 2017-01-12 00:57:54
pls
norotartagen 2017-01-12 00:58:05
not EVERYTHING
norotartagen 2017-01-12 00:58:14
you know i just realized something
buZz 2017-01-12 00:58:28
there's two methods of learning
buZz 2017-01-12 00:58:32
one is 'doing effort'
buZz 2017-01-12 00:58:38
the other is 'being american'
norotartagen 2017-01-12 00:58:40
silver and gold require chemical tests to verify
norotartagen 2017-01-12 00:58:53
bitcoin is far easier to verify
norotartagen 2017-01-12 00:59:00
:D
BrahRah 2017-01-12 00:59:18
and easier to get stolen
norotartagen 2017-01-12 00:59:31
>.>
wumpus 2017-01-12 00:59:52
do you really have to lump together everyone in a country? there's ton of lazy people here in the netherlands as well :p
buZz 2017-01-12 01:00:12
;)
buZz 2017-01-12 01:00:24
wumpus: we dont praise stupidity here though
buZz 2017-01-12 01:00:27
not as much
norotartagen 2017-01-12 01:00:40
what do we do?
norotartagen 2017-01-12 01:00:47
i generally ignore it
norotartagen 2017-01-12 01:00:59
lol
norotartagen 2017-01-12 01:01:10
'night all
norotartagen 2017-01-12 01:01:18
cya later
buZz 2017-01-12 01:06:42
rofl
RixiM 2017-01-12 01:32:39
buZz: thanks for the help. on a fairly beefy machine with 100s of mbps it would still take days to sync the blockchain, right?
wumpus 2017-01-12 01:33:24
if you crank up dbcache to maximum on a machine with fast CPU and network you can do it within a few hours, at most a day
